Excitement!

Exciting stuff this week:

First, the living room rug arrived.
The black smudge is Sadie, breaking it in.

Secondly, I think these are Gladiolas? This week's surprise in the garden.

And not so exciting, my Welcoming Committee gift:
Oops. I think I might have killed it. However, this is par for the course for me. The flowers in the garden are a continual surprise to me, as I would be certain to have killed them the moment I accepted responsibility, had history had any lessons for us.

Love the yellow glads! A lovely surprise, indeed.

RE your Welcoming Committee gift . . . oh, my! The good news is that I really don't think you've killed it. It looks dried out and, once gotten into that condition can be hard to "re-wet."

Fill your sink with tepid water to a level above the rim of the pot. Hold the pot, plant and all, down until bubbles stop rising to the surface. Allow the plant to sit submerged for about 15 minutes or so, then drain well.

Trim off any dead stuff back to the base of the plant. Then put it in a medium light setting (perhaps in front of an east or west window). Even light filtered through a sheer curtain is fine (these plants live in malls :-)).

Try to put this plant in a room with cooler temps and keep the soil from drying out. You don't want it to be wet, but pretty consistently moist during the growing season.

It needs a winter dormancy so you should allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings during the winter. But maintain filtered light and cool temps.

It's a pretty easy plant to grow indoors and I think you'll be amazed at how well those leaves and stems can be resurrected by a good soaking & draining (no standing water once it's out of the sink!).

Describing how to care for it took more time than actually caring for it. :-)

Yes, what Red said :) Peace Lilies are hard to kill (easy to prevent from blooming but hard to kill). She just needs some water.
