Continuing to Deck the Halls

This is the wreath I made last week for my front door. I think it looks great, but the lack of light on and around my front door means that probably no one has noticed it. Oh well. At least I'm trying.

Home Improvement Adventures

How can something so simple make me so happy?

It's a new threshold, and I installed it myself. The old one didn't fit right, and rocked back and forth, and holes were worn through the gasket. Under the old threshold I found layers of old what-we-assume-is-insulation and caulk and general junk. I scraped it all out, drilled holes for anchors in the cement, and securely fastened a shiny new aluminum threshold. And The DOOR STILL CLOSES! The bottom of the door isn't level (but is better since removing a superflous wedge from the bottom), but a new door sweep will fit snugly against the new threshold, and bada-bing-bada-boom! Insulated non-ugly door! Hooray!

And in other home news, I have started decking the halls. Fun!

My House is Warm, and So Am I

Hey all. Long time no read. Since my last post I had my long-awaited housewarming party, and it was lovely. It was in the middle of November, but it was still a warm day and as usual, everyone gravitated out to the furniture-less back porch.

Since I haven't shared any pictures of the house lately, here are some of the bedroom, sans cardboard boxes.

And much knitting of small projects has ensued, now that the weather has turned, little gardening is necessary, and the painting is done.

This:
Turned into this:
Slippers!

And I finished a hat, a neckwarmer and a shawl.

As usual, all details are on Ravelry for those who are interested.

Christmas is Coming and I am Literate

Two weeks ago I couldn’t have cared less about having an e-reader. In the past, I have read electronic books on my PDA, and now my cell phone screen is really too small for it, but I don’t read that much and it wasn’t missed.

Then. Barnes & Noble announced the Nook. And now I Want One. Bad. Maybe the Kindle was ugly. Maybe it was expensive. Maybe I didn’t pay any attention to any of the other e-readers out there. Maybe the Kindle has a stupid name for an e-book. Hello... Kindling? Book burning? Not cool? But the idea of a reading nook is a darling thought and the Nook is so attractive.

Did I mention that I don’t read much anymore? Did I mention that I need another thing to carry around in my purse like another hole in the head? But just yesterday I had two conversations in which books I might like to read were discussed, which only fans the flames.

Did I mention that Kate Spade makes covers for it?

For Those Keeping Score:

Both pockets and zippers are complete.

All that remains is to sew in the sleeves, weave in a few ends, and add the buttons.
