Lot of Help You Are

Well, you guys are a lot of help. I got one suggestion on how to deal with the noise problem. Monica suggested that I mention it to the management office. If no one has anything else to suggest, I'll do that. Have none of you ever had a slightly noisy neighbor? I was hoping for some elaborate plan involving drilling a hole in the ceiling and slowly dropping acid down to erode their stereo or something. But speak now or forever hold your peace. [not that that's a problem lately; I've been getting a notoriously small number of comments lately. I'll have to pull out the bugs again if you guys don't buck up and comment.]

Overheard at my office the other day:

"If I want to write 'the beam of light goes through the filter' do I spell that T-H-R-U or T-H-R-O-U-G-H?"

I am not on speaking terms with the person who asked that, so I kept my mouth shut and simply beat my head against my desk. Apparently she didn't learn much in college. If you have children considering where to go for college, well, don't send them to a school in the south whose mascot is a bulldog. Sheesh. [I'm sorry, that's pretty harsh; I'm sure many people have gotten fine educations from an institution in the south whose mascot is a bulldog. But apparently one person didn't.]

And, since Teri hasn't posted them, here are some LOVELY pictures of the two of us knitting at The Yarn Shop in Overland Park, Kansas (my new favorite RYS [Remote Yarn Shop]).

Don't we look like we're having fun? We were telling corny jokes to make ourselves laugh so it would look like we were having a good time. Because it's always such a chore to sit and knit with your friends.

I have finished the novelty yarn scarf. Sandy suggested that I lightly block it with steam, and I haven't done that yet. You may remember that it was too wide and too short. Now it's almost eight feet long. Pictures of me wearing the amazing wonder scarf in all the multiple ways you can wear an eight foot scarf are forthcoming.

And I finally thought of a good class to offer at Knitorious. I'd like to teach a "Beginner II" class, teaching increases, decreases, seaming, gauge, various cast-ons and bind-offs. What do you think? I think it would be everything a student would need to graduate from scarves to basic sweaters, or hats, or whatever else.

Have you asked your neighbours if they're doing anything different from before? Is it a new noise? Maybe it's a heater or a fan or something that they don't realize is pesky to others. It's a lot easier to ask about a random daytime noise than to ask about late night noises. I had to talk to my upstairs neighbours about the late nights of "Oh michael! Oh michael, YES yES YES!" Now THAT is annoying.

Hey Beth. I've been experiencing a comment drought lately too...
Why don't you just go knock on your noisy neighbors' door, tell them that you're sure they aren't aware of how well sound carries from their home into yours, and ask them if they could turn it down a bit after a certian time of night. I'll be they don't realize that they're disturbing you, and they'd probably prefer to hear it from you first.

I like Kelly's idea. I've never really had loud neighbors before. Well, one time I lived in apartment next to a woman that OCD and would vacuum her carpets at all hours of the day and night. But that wasn't too bad a deal really.

So I have no advice really. Sorry.

Hi, Beth! I'm actually an employee at your RYS, but sadly, I only work on Sundays, so I didn't get to meet you. But if I did, I would have knocked you down and say, "Beth! It's you! I know because I recognize you from your blog and I know who Teri is but I don't think she knows who I am and she was really super and helped us teach a buttload of people how to knit FOR FREE. And we love Teri."

But, like I said, just on Sundays.

I would offer suggestions if I had them. Unfortunately, I've more often BEEN the noisy neighbor. I used to have an upstairs neighbor that would always complain about his beauty sleep being disturbed (from the looks of him... he wasn't lying). He complained about my loud alarm clock (I can't hear; I need it loud!). He complained about the bedroom ceiling fan squeaking (we fixed that). He complained about me parking in "his" parking spot (we didn't have assigned parking!). Whine, whine, whine. When we (being my ex-husband and I) moved out, we took out the cardboard we stuck in the ceiling van to stop the squeaking and left the thing ON when we locked up. Hahahah!

Maybe you should just play loud music, too. ;)

Hi! I don't have a Blogger login, but I'm over at LiveJournal, where my journal has dust on it cuz it's not been used in a while ;-)

ANYWAY!

I've apparently been behind on the time because I had NO idea that we had another YS open in STL! Ack!

Time to make a SEX, I do believe :) :) :)

Glad I ran across your blog - and I do have noisy neighbors complete with a 3 year old and a 5 year old who were heard to be screaming at the top of their lungs and bouncing on Mommy and Daddy's bed that Santa had apparently visited them.....at 5 AM Christmas Day? Did I mention that they were screaming and bouncing? That was before one of them started using the wall to bounce a ball off of. Wheeeee! Wanna trade? ;-)

Congrats on culinary school!
