All My Knitty Friends and I Talk About My Hair

It's been a while since I've gotten out for knit night and taken some pictures!

Suzie, Gwen and Mary Ann; and Kris (with new cute hair) and Donna

The Cardi Raye--

I'm still having problems with my new hair. I still don't like it. I mean, I'm still getting used to it. I thought I was liking it more, but then tonight I tried to take some more pictures of it for you and I wasn't happy with a single one. It makes me look like a boy, or an old lady, or just fat, or whatever. However, all of the feedback so far has been good.

My favorite reactions so far:

1. As I arrived at Bach society rehearsal, Dennis, our director, gave me a big hug and told me it was "adorable". Then after a few announcements at the beginning of rehearsal he pulled me up and spun me around a few times in front of everybody. I was pretty mortified. If I hadn't had the presence of mind and grace to know how to be spun around like that I would have really had to leave out of embarassment. I grabbed my folder back from him and slunk back to my chair.

2. My boss' boss' boss came into a meeting and the first thing out of his mouth was "what are you so dressed up for?" and I said "I'm not" and then he said "Oh! You cut your hair!" Men can be a little clueless.

3. I was walking down the hall at work, and there were three people I only sortof know coming in the opposite direction. Only one of them recognized me at first, and said "Look at you!" And then the rest recognized me. That was a definite positive reaction.

Overall, the reaction has been genuinely positive. No one has said "My, that sure is different, isn't it?" or something stupid like that. And people have a hard time concealing negative surprise, so I have to just go with it, but I feel terrible. I guess it's incentive to lose some more weight. When I made the appointment I was motivated, and I lost a little, but I didn't keep it up. I really show it in my face, and I think that's what I'm having a hard time with. My hair isn't the biggest thing above my shoulders anymore. My cheeks are. Maybe my double chin is. Ok. I'm going to knock this off right now. It's not healthy, and who cares? It's not like I used to be a beauty queen or anything. Uggh.

Beth - Look in the mirror. (Yes, right now.) What you are looking at is a beautiful and caring woman.

Don't make me beat it into you. :-)

Lynn's right... I'm guessing that you just feel more vulnerable because a lot of people are noticing your looks right now. Even though your hair is totally cute!

A friend of mine went through an adjustment period when she chopped her hair off -- she had the same concern about looking like a boy. She used the occasion to splurge on some oversized girly-girl earrings that she said made her feel extra-feminine. Maybe that's a short-term solution?

(not that you need it, though.... your hair really is darling and sleek!)

One way to counteract any boyishness is to make it GIRLY. :) Put in a sparkly barrette, or when it gets long enough, do what I do and flip it. I love my short, flippy hair.

Sorry my work computer got a bit wonky there. It posted before I was ready. I meant to say...

I just stumbled across your blog randomly (I was hitting the next blog button wondering how long it would take me to get to another knitting blog -15 blogs to be exact). I have dontated my hair to locks of love 3 times in my life. I commend you for all the work you are doing to offset the cost of the wigmaking.

Your knitting is great by the way! I love the mods you made to the booda bag! Yours is great!!

Stupid irrelevant question time!

In your latest pic of your Cardi, your knit kit and stuff is in the left side of the picture. So the fat little plastic needle that looks suspiciously like a tampon holder, but I'm pretty sure is not? What is that for? Do you have like tapestry needles in there? Or maybe snacks?

Mmm... snacks.....
