The Nicest Thing

Today when I got to work I saw this:
on my desk.

Why was there random yarn on my desk? Did somebody die and their heirs are giving me what's left? Was it an un-wanted project? What could it be?

I inspected more closely and found this:

Look! Look! Woolen is spelled woollen. It must be from some other country. And it's aran wool from a place called "Kerry". Could it be Irish?

Oh, yes it could. My co-worker, Mike, just got back from a two-week trip to Ireland. When we were talking about the trip before he left I jokingly said "Well, if you run into any yarn, you know who to bring it back for." ha ha ha! Well, he brought me this:
600 grams of real Irish wool in a gorgeous tweedy green. Nobody ever does anything like this for me. I only get gifts on Christmas and my birthday. It's probably the nicest random thing anyone's ever done for me, but there's no way he could possibly understand how excited I am about it. However, my gushing reaction might have given him a clue. I wanted to give him a hug, but I don't think he's a hug-at-work kind of guy. He's actually kind of crotchety and a little scratchy sometimes. But for today, he's my favorite person.

Aw, how wonderful! Any idea what you're going to make with it?

That's so sweet! I'm sure he'll be excited when you knit it up and wear it around the office (unless you can't because the soy gets messy)

What a great gift! Did it cost him much? Free yarn is the best :)
