Trying Not To Think About It

Those who know me well know that there is always a part of me on the Gulf of Mexico, particularly New Orleans, and that's not the kind of thing you can evacuate. And so, today I am thanking God for answering my prayers, because I don't think I could stand seeing pictures of the Quarter under water. My heart is broken enough as it is.

And that's all I have to say about that, because this is a knitting blog, and I don't want to bore you with my irrational dramatics.

In happy news, I got a shipment from Amazon today. This is particularly wonderful because it was part of an order I placed on Wednesday, and I was told this particular book wouldn't arrive until early September; it arrived before the other two books! It's the Harmony Guide Volume 5 - 220 Aran Stitches and Patterns.
I know that Barbara Walker's stitch collections are the gold standard, but they're expensive and numerous, and all of the books have aran stitches in them. I could have borrowed the set from my friend Ellen, but then I would feel obligated to get it done, and we all know there's nothing worse for a project than obligation. This was $11.50, includes only aran stitches which is what I'm interested in right now, and includes some information about designing arans. I also ordered volume 4 which should arrive tomorrow. But this was the one I was most excited about because I will use it to design a pattern for the beautiful yarn given me by my friend at work. Soon it'll be cool enough weather for me to work on it, and I think it'll take longer to design than to knit, the gauge is so big.

Oh, I've not seen that. Must look into it. I love Arans. Now to get to work on one of the 2 stash projects I have for Aran knitting. Except, I think I am in a Fair Isle stage. Oh well, the hands must knit what they want, don't want to spoil the moment.

Except I think that New Orleans is having more damage than they originally thought. There is new flooding. They said about 80% of NO has flooding or water damage.
