New Mags and I Forgot

Oops. The other night I forgot....I was having trouble uploading pictures to Blogger, and meant to go back. Anyway, this is the yarn I chose for the Panta. It's Reynold's Harvest Tweed, and it's fantastically beautiful. At least those are the words that keep running through my head as I knit. I'm about two thirds done. I have to get ready to go to Chicago tomorrow for a cousin's wedding, but I hope to finish it tonight.

And as I mentioned before, I got the new Interweave Knits, and I am now ready to review. Some people were not so thrilled with it, but I liked several pieces from it.

First, the warm-weather accessories:
I'm not a fan of the felted-with-a-leather-band type of beret, but I really like the loose floppy knit kind. And I think the scarf looks really fun. It's seed stitch, which gives some people fits of apoplexy, but I knit continental, and I don't care.
Secondly, I think these socks are very pretty, and they use my favorite cast on, which more people should use, and a different toe than usual (a star toe) which I've never tried.

And lastly, the sweaters. I don't think it's a coincidence that they're both on the same model. She seems to be shaped kind of like me (except for a few pounds) -- we both have pretty straight waists. A lot of patterns count on some body shaping, and when you don't have it, well, there's no point. There is another sweater in this issue (4-3-2 Ribbed Pullover) that might look better on someone with more curves.

I think these are both cute and don't put too much emphasis on the non-existent waist. The second one even creates one. And it calls for Patons Brilliant, a yarn I've been thinking of using for a while.
I will say, however, that this sweater needs a bra.

I also enjoyed the article about Veronik Avery. I hadn't put it together before how many of her patterns I like. And if you read about her background, it totally backs up my "Knitting Design and Clothing Design are Two Different Things" philosophy. She's my new favorite. However, I've never actually knit anything she's designed, so I suppose the jury is still out.

The new Knitty is also up. I'm not going to link to everything; if you don't know what I'm talking about, click and go figure it out. I've printed out two patterns, Bristow (a cardigan) and Pomatomus (socks). The socks look like a lot of fun, and a good pattern for variegated yarn. I also like Tubey (a lot) and Tempting II, but I don't think they're for the waist-challenged. Yes, Jenna kindly sized Tempting II up to a 52" but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. And the designer (and model) of Tubey has a long torso. I'd have to shorten it to keep it from being a short dress, and it would look more short and square than long and rectangular, if you know what I mean, and square is not what we are looking for. Maybe someday.

I better go exercise.

I agree with you on Bristow being promising. Veronik Avery has still not passed Norah G. or Melissa Leapman for me.

New magazines are the best- this time of year it seems like one comes out every five seconds- I love it!

I wasn't so sure because I"d heard the same thing about the new Interweave Knits. Nice to see that it's not ALL true!

I just LOVE the panta and the yarn! That's on my list after the Christmas rush.

Sigh. I still haven't gotten my Interweave Knits and all the talk of it everywhere is making me three shades of green! ;)FWIW, I like the sweater on the right (tan- now I can't remember whose it is). Can't want to get my IK and see how it's written!

Those are the same sweaters I picked as favs. I'm a bit nervous about the boobage factor in the second one...alas, maybe there will be a store sample in my future.

A friend of mine is cranking out Panta after Panta as gifts. I would like to make her one...where did you find the pattern?
