An Emotional Weekend, In a Good Way

Well, it's been a productive and emotional weekend.

Yesterday, I got to leave work early because it was slow. I went home and knit and knit and knit. I'm really excited to finish my Ribby Cardi; I'd really like to wear it, so I've been working on it a lot. Then, I went out for dinner and to the St. Louis Symphony. They were performing a piece by John Adams called "On the Transmigration of Souls" (written in commemoration of the events of September 11, 2001), which won the Pulitzer prize, and Brahms' Requiem. Both pieces were truly amazing in their own ways. The Adams piece was moving to the extreme. I kept hoping for it to be over because it hurt so much. Part of the piece is a recording including names of people who were lost that day, and even though I didn't know a single one of them, it was very painful to hear. If you ever get a chance to hear a performance of this piece, I highly recommend it. The Brahms piece was a work of consolation and comfort, the words taken from the Bible, offering hope of the eternal life to come. I think if I had gone home after the first piece, it would have ruined my weekend, but the Brahms was a soothing balm on the raw emotions left from that September which seems so long ago, but is still right behind us.

This morning I sang at church with the choir, then did some laundry (knitting at the laundromat, of course) and after watching a bit of basketball, took a long nap. I woke up, baked some muffins for dinner and finished the second sleeve of the Cardi. Here they are blocking:The zipper was mailed on Friday, I'm told. I've never put a zipper into a knit garment before, but I have in a fabric garment, so I'm a little nervous, but excited. I think I can handle it.

It looks just great. Have you seen the really clear instructions on how to put in a zipper here?
