When we last left my car saga, I had bought a new car, but didn't know what to do with my old car, short of donating it to a charity. Now, many people say "Donate it! Take the write-off!" But writing off a worthless car isn't as great as it sounds. And a broken car has no Blue Book value.
So I put it up on Ebay. It will cost a person $80 to sell a car on Ebay, but I thought it was worth a try, and I figured any money I might make is more than what I would make by donating it. I took a million pictures, wrote everything I could think about it, and sat back to see what would happen. I started bidding at $100 and it sat at $110 for the beginning of the week, then at $510 for the middle of the week. I was very happy with this, but all hell broke loose in the last minute, and it climbed to $875! So that's about $800 more than what I thought I would have in my bank account. Yippee!
The winner and I e-mailed back and forth a little bit, and the next day he came to St. Louis, with cash, and hauled my car away. It happened so fast, I didn't have time to retrieve my "Key West Parrothead" licence plate frame or take a Family Picture.
An artist's rendition of the Family Picture:
(The old car was red, the new car is blue, and that's me in the middle.)
Now, I've been very frugal this month. I've learned that I spend a lot more than I need to on stuff like food. After a stressful Thursday, and with the money situation looking up, I headed to an LYS-that-I-don't-work-at to see what they had. I bought a few things. I bought this book, which has been an inspiration to Gwen, the Sock Queen:
And this sock yarn:
It's pink and sparkly, it's called "Disco" and my long-time readers will recall how much I love pink and I love sparkly. I should have been an eight-year-old girl. I also bought the new FiberTrends "Huggable Hedgehogs" pattern. How cute is that?

I am in awe of your good fortune. I love the artist's rendition of the family. Sock yarn is definitely you.
You made a great choice there - you can no longer write off a car for blue book value. You can only write it off for what the charity sells it for, and they have less time to sell a car than you do. Congrats on the great ebay sale!
I still can't believe your car sold for so much on ebay.
I'm coveting your pink sparkly sock yarn. I know you'll love that little booklet as well. It's nice to know that I've corrupted you almost as much as I've been corrupted. 12 days to Maryland Sheep and Wool. :-)

I like your artist's rendition. Congrats on the car sale, that's amazing.
I love the sock yarn...must have some...
Congrats on the car - it is so much fun when the ebayers fight over your stuff! Love the drawing - red white and blue, very nice :)
